Algeciras is a port city in southern Spain. Dan and I traveled there by train from Madrid in December of 2003 to visit family from my mom's side. Our first meal there was at a beach side restaurant and both Dan and I had some of the best fish dishes we've ever tasted. I will be attempting one of them later in the week!
Unfortunately our last meal there made me sick just in time for a three hour bus ride to Sevilla. The morning of our departure our hosts took us to a local cafe and I tried manteca colorada ( lard seasoned with paprika) on toast. I didn't know what it was when it was given to me and it is one of those things that once was enough for me.
